How our lives changed forever...

We had quite the scare when Kaylee was born 16 weeks early. Our little miracle weighed only 1 pound, 3 ounces. Kaylee could not breathe on her own, and was on a ventilator for a couple months, then progressing up to a cpap, then to a nasal cannula. Kaylee remained on supplemental oxygen until almost her second birthday. We were unable to hold our precious little girl for a month, as even the slightest touch would disturb her, and being out from the warming light would cause her body to work too hard to stay warm. Every little drop of nutrition and calorie was so valuable to Kaylee to help her grow. Slowly, Kaylee began to get stronger and bigger, and eventually learned to suck on a bottle to eat, rather than being fed through a tube in her mouth or nose. We took Kaylee home after over 4 months in the NICU- which was scary, but a relief! Kaylee has not met any of her developmental milestones on time, but still never ceases to amaze us on what she can do...and what she says! Kaylee continues to have difficulties with her fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, and speech, but is improving with therapy. Just this year, Kaylee started special education preschool, and loves it! Kaylee’s favorite things to do are to snuggle, read books, color, and play with everything! Kaylee has always been strong-willed and a little stubborn-which we feel has helped her make it this far! God has blessed us with this little miracle, and we never take a day for granted with her!

"The Challange of 19"

We posted on Facebook a challange to all of our friends and family to get 19 donations in the last 19 days before the walk, since Kaylee was only 19 ounces when she was born. We also set a goal at 19 walkers for the May 1st March for Babies on Team Kaylee.

We made it!!

Good Job Team Kaylee! WE MADE IT!!! The 8.5 mile walk seemed long this year, but we did it again. The rain held off, and it was perfect walking weather this year- not too hot and not too cold. Team Kaylee was bigger than ever and raised almost $900!!! I will keep our goal at $1200 for next year, I think we can reach it! I look to expand the team even more next year. I would like to do some fundraising during Prematurity Awareness Month in the fall, then start again next winter and spring with the March for Babies campaign...Great job again this year, Team Kaylee!
